HUNTER'S SAFETY EDUCATION COURSES

Hunter Education is a mandatory program that is designed to introduce students to several life-long skills that are important to many different types of outdoor recreational opportunities.  The course teaches students basic survival and first aid skills, water safety, wildlife identification, basic wildlife management, hunting laws and firearm/archery safety.  Hunter Education also stresses the importance of individual responsibility and outdoor ethics.

Iowa law requires all Iowa residents born after January 1, 1972, and all non-residents born after January 1, 1968, to be certified in Hunter Education before they are eligible to purchase an Iowa hunting license.

These classes are available to all future hunters age 11 and up (who will be turning 12 in the upcoming season). Registration will require student's name, address, social security number, birthday and parent names.  Classes are free and lunch is provided.

ALL students WILL be required to pick up the Hunter's Safety Education Manual in the Recorder's office, read AND complete the test questions in the back of the manual BEFORE attending class.  Students will be required to take a test at the end of the class with a 75% passing grade.

1ST CLASS BEING OFFERED will be held Saturday, September 23, 2023, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm at Keokuk County Sportsman Club, 20162 240th Ave, Sigourney.

Please Note: When registering a child, make sure to login as the child you are wishing to register or create an account for that child.  DO NOT login or register yourself as a parent unless you are wanting to take the course yourself for certification.  Students who have previously purchased Iowa DNR licenses, such as youth deer tags, will already have an Iowa DNR account and should register using their personal information.
